Award-winning filmmaker and creative visionary Dammy Twitch has shared the deeply personal story behind his rise in Nigeria’s film and creative industry in an emotional conversation with Chude Jideonwo on the viral show #WithChude. Reflecting on his journey from shooting modest events and underpaid gigs to becoming one of the country’s most sought-after visual storytellers, Dammy revealed how necessity pushed him into entrepreneurship. “I started my company because clients didn’t want to pay money into a personal account,” he said. He also opened up about the resistance he initially faced at home, recalling how his mother struggled to believe in his career path until she began to see its impact. “My mother pushed back on my career choice. However, after receiving monetary gifts from me and speaking with Davido on a video call, she began to believe in my career choice.”

The conversation took a deeply emotional turn as Dammy reflected on losing his father in 2020 while working on set. He recalled receiving the devastating news while filming and the difficult decision to keep going despite his grief. In one of the interview’s most touching moments, he revealed the extraordinary act of kindness shown by music superstar Davido. “Davido took a boat out to the set just to offer to refund the client so I could go home,” he shared. Speaking about loss, healing and the search for closure, Dammy reflected on how the experience reshaped his perspective on life, purpose and resilience, teaching him to keep moving forward even through profound pain.

Today, that resilience is reflected in his success. Dammy celebrated a major milestone with his latest project, “Call of My Life,” which generated ₦128 million in less than a week at the box office. But beyond the numbers, he says his mission remains clear. “I’ll keep making films that matter because I need to give people a reason to go to the cinema,” he said. Through stories of sacrifice, ambition, grief and triumph, the interview reveals a filmmaker whose greatest achievement may not be commercial success, but his determination to turn life’s heaviest moments into work that moves people.
