On April 30th, 2025, celebrated storyteller, author, and media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo was a keynote speaker at the 5th edition of the Psychife Annual Conference organized by the Psychology students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The conference, which gathers students, mental health advocates, and thought leaders, focused on empowering young people with tools for mental wellness, self-discovery, and navigating societal expectations.
Chude’s Message: “You Are the Most Important Person in Your Life”
In his deeply personal and inspiring talk, Chude centered his message on self-discovery and personal agency. Speaking directly to the students, he emphasized the importance of looking inward when making life decisions.
“You are the most important person when it comes to decisions about your own life,” he told the packed hall.
He encouraged students to silence external noise and focus on their own values, emotions, and dreams, reminding them that their journey begins with self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Redefining Pressure: “It’s Not Real. It’s Perception.”
Chude also tackled the theme of pressure and expectations, challenging the audience to shift their mindset.
“Pressure is a perception of people’s expectations. It’s not a real thing,” he said, breaking it down with relatable examples.
He explained that unlike tangible threats, pressure lives in the mind and only gains power when we accept it. Chude distinguished real-life challenges (like someone physically trying to control you) from imagined ones (like societal pressure), urging students to develop the character and resilience to stand firm in their values.
The room erupted in cheers and applause—proof that his message deeply resonated with the young audience.
