Daniel Bwala: From Opposition to the Heart of Power

Daniel Bwala: From Opposition to the Heart of Power
July 12, 2025 Dorcas

He once called him President-select.
Today, he is the official spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Daniel Bwala’s story isn’t about contradiction. It is about clarity, strategy, and bold choices.

In this episode of WithChude, he tells it all, plainly and without apology.

“The number one rule of opposition is to oppose,” he says. So when he was with Atiku, that was exactly what he did.
But he draws a line. “I never called Tinubu a drug lord. Never.”

Now, he believes Atiku would have made a great president, but adds, “Would he have been better than Asiwaju? I doubt it.”

He speaks on Peter Obi, calling him a patriotic Nigerian, but also questions the silence around his political moves.
“He’s changed parties too. Why does no one talk about that?”

He describes El-Rufai as someone who was effective on social media, but without Buhari’s influence, couldn’t have won a senate seat.

Then comes a moment of vulnerability.
“Rufai Oseni was my best friend in APC. But when I joined Tinubu, he turned on me. When I moved to Atiku, both APC and the Obi-dients became my enemies.”

On the economy, he is honest.
“The beginning felt like hell was loose. But people are adjusting.”
He believes the media often forgets the role of the governors, choosing to place all the blame on the president.

When asked if the president ever doubted his loyalty, he smiles and says,
“He is a Bwalan.”

Sharp. Complex. Unapologetic.
This is Daniel Bwala like you’ve never seen him.
