Chude Jideonwo, renowned media entrepreneur and storyteller, has joined the board of Chakula, a vital program by The Africa Centre that centers on the experiences and stories of Black and African LGBTQ+ communities in London, Africa, and the global diaspora.
Chakula is dedicated to creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ Africans to express themselves, heal, and connect through events, workshops, and storytelling. The name Chakula means food or nourishment in Swahili, symbolizing the program’s mission to nurture and uplift marginalized queer voices that often go unheard.
By joining Chakula’s board, Chude brings his passion for inclusive storytelling and advocacy for marginalized communities. His work amplifying underrepresented voices aligns deeply with Chakula’s mission to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities across Africa and beyond.
Chakula is curated by Vee Belinga and supported by Propel, focusing on intersectionality and joy within queer African experiences. With Chude on board, the program is set to grow its impact and foster more spaces where LGBTQ+ Africans can thrive without fear or silence.
This appointment marks another step in Chude’s ongoing commitment to human dignity and equality
