“I lost almost ₦80 million on one stream and I’m doing it again” — Muhammed Gilmore sits #WithChude

Content creator, streamer and entrepreneur Muhammed Gilmore joins Chude Jideonwo on the viral show #WithChude for a bold conversation about ambition, faith, unconventional career paths and the realities of building a life in Nigeria. From growing up in Ikorodu and overcoming his shyness to becoming one of Nigeria’s talked-about digital creators, Gilmore reflects on the experiences that shaped his perspective. He recounts a life-changing encounter with God at Jaja Hall, University of Lagos, and challenges conventional ideas about success, education and achievement. “Growing up in Ikorodu shaped me, it helped me to relate to the rich and the poor,” he says, reflecting on how his background gave him a perspective that continues to influence his work.

Gilmore also offers an unfiltered account of the risks, disappointments and calculations behind his rise in the creator economy. He recalls spending millions on his first livestream and making just ₦450,000, as well as the lengths he went to in an attempt to get Davido’s attention. He discusses the business of online entertainment, the intelligence behind Carter Efe’s content strategies, and the difficult question of whether creators can be blamed for making provocative content when negativity attracts the most attention. Challenging the tendency to apply successful people’s advice universally, he says, “Dangote is doing exceptionally well but I won’t take advice from him.” For Gilmore, success cannot be separated from context: what works for one person may not work for another whose circumstances are entirely different.

At the heart of the conversation is the courage to define success on your own terms in a country where opportunity, class and circumstances shape the choices available to young people. Gilmore questions the assumption that a university degree is the surest route to a better life, reflects on the contradictions within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, and explains why creators must understand the realities of the world they are building in. He also challenges conventional judgments about online personalities, pointing to the gap between how people present themselves publicly and how they relate privately. Unapologetic and provocative, Gilmore’s conversation on #WithChude asks difficult questions about ambition, authenticity, attention and survival, and what it really takes to make your own way.
