I went back to find the lady who said my relationship would scatter — Simi Dapson sits #WithChude

Media entrepreneur and host of the viral talkshow #WithChude, Chude Jideonwo, sits down with Simi Dapson, influencer, entrepreneur and media personality, for an intimate conversation about the girl who dreamed of becoming a star and the woman she has become. Simi reflects on growing up with parents who shielded her from the realities of their financial circumstances, discovering her voice through fashion and photography, and building her fashion brand, Simi Defined. She also talks about earning a first-class result in her final year, landing her first major influencing opportunity and making ₦80,000 from it, while explaining why she continues to carry her father’s name as a way of honouring him. “Leaving Ikorodu shifted my mindset from thinking small to being open to the possibilities and opportunities beyond my environment. There is life outside Ikorodu,” she says.

The conversation moves into more personal territory as Simi opens up about love, marriage, her elaborate wedding to Femi Dapson, public scrutiny and the pressure of expectations. She recalls the woman who warned her about her relationship with Femi and reveals how she responded after getting engaged. She also addresses the “womb watchers” who had already declared her pregnant almost from the beginning of the relationship. Reflecting on her own timeline, she says: “I thought I’d be married at 24 or 25, but life happened. I was not desperate to meet up with my goal.” What begins as an interview with Simi eventually becomes a joint conversation when her husband, Femi Dapson, joins her, opening up a different side of their marriage and public life.

Together, Simi and Femi speak candidly about what it means to live under constant public scrutiny, including accusations that they paid for PR to make their wedding go viral, something they say was never the plan. They discuss the difference between wanting to be a star and simply wanting to make money, their unconventional approach to love and marriage, and the realities behind their work. They take Chude behind the scenes of music-video production in Lagos, including the ₦5 million paid to street boys to keep a set calm and Femi’s revelation that a single day of shooting cost ₦16.5 million on location. In one revealing moment, Simi recalls: “I genuinely wasn’t expecting any gift for Valentine’s Day, but my husband still surprised me with a Valentine’s gift by putting it on a billboard.”

The couple also let down the curtain on the playful, sometimes chaotic reality of their relationship, including the moments that do not always make it to social media. Simi recalls worrying about what her parents and pastor would think after strippers appeared at her bridal sower, saying: “I was very worried about what my parents would say about the strippers at my bridal shower. My pastor also found out about it.”

This episode goes beyond the glamour of influencer life, entrepreneurship, fame and marriage to explore two people negotiating love, ambition and public attention on their own terms.
