Dr. Adetoye Durodola, founder of Redwood Specialist Hospital in Abeokuta, has accused journalist and filmmaker Chude Jideonwo of defamation over his #WithChude documentary, “She Stole Our Ovaries”. Through his lawyers, Durodola is demanding the removal of the film, a public retraction, and an apology, alleging it falsely portrays a legal egg donation procedure as organ trafficking. His counsel argues the documentary contained unverified claims, caused reputational harm, and put his safety at risk.
In response, Jideonwo’s team maintains that the documentary followed journalistic best practices and insists the doctor was given multiple opportunities to share his side. They note that legal notices began as far back as March 2025, including meetings with the police, but Durodola declined to participate on record. The producers argue that the case reflects the pressure independent media face in Nigeria when powerful individuals use legal threats to suppress critical reporting.
The dispute comes as Jideonwo also faces a lawsuit from former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke over another #WithChude documentary, “Is It Your Money?”. Producers have described the suit as “preposterous,” since the film had not yet been released at the time she filed the defamation claim against Jideonwo.
