Chude Jideonwo has always believed in the power of stories, in how they hold us, heal us, and remind us of who we are.
Over the past weeks, that belief came alive through the Black History Month 2025 Photo Essay Competition at the London School of Economics (LSE). Each photograph, essay, and story was a window into the depth of the African spirit, a mirror, a heartbeat, and a glimpse into the beauty of being human and African.
On October 28, 2025, the winner of The Chude Jideonwo Prize for Creativity 2025 was announced. Yet, in truth, every participant was a winner. Every story told with honesty, courage, and care carries the power to move the world forward, to shift hearts, challenge perceptions, and expand what we believe is possible.
For Chude, having a prize that bears his name is a deeply humbling honor. Not for what it says about him, but for what it says about all of us, about a growing recognition that African stories matter. That they deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
He extends heartfelt gratitude to the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa for creating space for this celebration of creativity and truth, and to every storyteller who continues to create from a place of light.
