These are not just stories. They are lived experiences. Testaments of survival, pain, and strength — spoken by women who were never supposed to speak at all.
One lost her innocence to someone who lived under the same roof. Another tried to run, but he grabbed her by her braids and dragged her back across the floor. One got pregnant and was taken to Ibadan for an abortion at five months. No one told her she had a choice. Another was told to stay quiet because “things like this happen.” A nurse asked one what she was wearing. And one lost all her childhood friendships because people believed she had seduced her mother’s husband.
Each woman shared not just what happened but what it cost her. For one, it meant never being able to sleep over at a poor man’s house again. For another, it meant losing her education, her health, her relationships and almost losing her life.
But through it all, they kept going. Even when no one wanted to hear them. Even when the world said they should carry the shame for what was done to them. Even when silence felt safer than truth.
They didn’t just survive. They chose to speak. And in speaking, they reclaimed something the world tried to take – their voice.
What they have shared are not just stories. They are truths. And sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is believe them.
