“I was ready to quit music.”
That’s what Nigerian music minister Gaise Baba told his mentor in 2020. Just five years ago, after over a decade in music and multiple setbacks, he was convinced it was time to get a regular 9 to 5 job. Even though he had received a word from God three years earlier, he had grown weary. The dream felt delayed. The money wasn’t coming. He was ready to walk away.
But God wasn’t done with him.
Through his wife Funto, his partner of over 10 years, God sent a reminder: “No, you have to keep going.” And Gaise listened.
From Doubt to Destiny
Gaise Baba’s story is raw and real. He signed a covenant of sexual purity as a child, only to later battle addiction to pornography. He and his wife both married as virgins. He landed a record deal in his twenties but remained broke. He moved back in with his parents, battled depression, and watched his dreams fade.
Then came the moment of decision: give up music completely or trust God one more time.
His choice led to “No Turning Back”, a song that became a viral hit in 2024 with millions singing along globally.
A Mother’s Final Blessing
Two weeks before the song exploded, Gaise lost his mother. She wasn’t sick. But before she passed, she called him and left a voice note calling him a “special son” and affirming that his mission was about to go global.
He says she went to heaven and told the angels to get moving on his destiny.
Why Gaise Isn’t Just a Gospel Artist
Gaise Baba isn’t afraid to speak openly about sex, faith, the struggles of Christian creatives, and the criticism he’s received from church folks who say his song or hairstyle “isn’t Christian enough.”
He believes not every Christian should be a gospel artist. His music, he says, is a tool for impact, not the end goal. When Lawrence Oyor — a fiery worship leader known for deep spiritual anointing — asked to do a remix, Gaise called it “dangerous and ridiculous anointing refined with wisdom and excellence.”
Holding on Through Every Delay
Despite countless prophecies about his breakthrough, Gaise says the turning point came when he stopped chasing fame. He focused on the mission instead of the “blow.” When No Turning Back went viral, he wasn’t even surprised.
